the first day i didn't spend time looking for more.
i kind of dragged my way through the day and am quite relieved i did end up snapping this photo from my computer desk in the early afternoon.

new yellow tights.
it looks like i like yellow.
but it's actually a color i just recently started collecting a small bit of.
i'm too pinkish-white for too much yellow.

another subway stop photo. i had planned to take a different photo for today. when i shot this one, i knew it was it. so far in the project, i have been taking multiple photos throughout the day and choosing my favorite at the end (with the help of my sweet husband, if i choose to listen to his opinion :).
but today, it was a different story. i shot this photo at 7:30 a.m. and knew it was the one. to keep myself from changing my mind, i uploaded it to flickr at lunch. :) anyone else work the way i do? shoot a few photos to choose from? anyone else have a day like i did today, where you just know the first photo you shot is the one? i hope i have more days like today.

there are two pipes in our apartment running through the floor and up through the ceiling. in the winter time, they let off a lot of heat. and since they've been working on full blast lately, i thought it'd make the perfect subject today.
i know it's only 5 days in, but i'm really, really enjoying the photo a day project this year. last year when i started, i tried so hard to take photos with my camera. i eventually wasn't happy about some pictures and felt a little bad about having photos i really didn't like in my collection... which eventually led to the demise of the project. i'm trying my best to not be so hard on myself about the photos. something is better than nothing... and when a photo isn't working, it's good for me to really understand why it's not working for me. a learning experience, something to take with me and use to make another photo better.
so far, using my iphone camera has made such a difference. it's not such an event to get a photo. i do a little searching and planning during my weekdays (if i get a moment, which is a bit rare). then on my way home, i start thinking of ideas and searching for the photos i can take. and it's a casual, low-key activity, being able to use my phone and snap my photo.

i did the most unthinkable thing after work today... i went to target! i had planned to go to a small store in my neighborhood, but had to return something at a store right by target and go to the library right by target... and it's cold out... and the other store is a couple avenues down from my house... so i just sucked it up and stopped at target. it was still as horrible as i remember it to be.
**note: most targets aren't so horrendous, but trust me, the one in brooklyn. is. very. very. bad.

today is the start of a new project. as of the first day of 2010, i'm going to be taking one photo a day to post here over the next 365 days. each photo will be taken with my iphone using the shakeitphoto ap. i came up three goals that i shared on this discussion board. these goals are to help keep my focused narrowed, and help make it possible for me to complete.
simply put:
goal 1: focus on the composition.
goal 2: use my iphone (which will help because although i have a fancy dslr, i often don't carry it with me everywhere i go).
goal 3: no excuses.
during 2009, i attempted this project 2 different times. and failing both times, has helped me figure out what it is i need to make sure i am successful this third time.
